Wooden swing sets – cedar, pine and oak sets
Wooden swing sets can be made of different type of wood. The best
wood is cedar. Cedar is almost as strong as an oak, but very light.
Cedar has natural properties that makes its wood resistant to rotting
and decay. Also it doesn’t crack or chip, bow or sag.
Another popular wood material for swing sets is pine, simply because
it is much cheaper than cedar. Pine sets look very good when new
and they are light-weight, but pine is not very durable. You can
also get oak swing sets. Oak is a traditional swing material, it
is the strongest of all woods, but it is very heavy, so you might
have troubles installing an oak swing set.
When choosing your swing set, make sure that it will be reasonably
easy to assemble. It should include all pre-cut, pre-sanded and
pre-drilled lumber. It also should have all the required hardware,
accessories, slide and detailed instructions required to assemble
the unit.
Some companies offer to make a custom made swing set, that would
suit all your needs.
The price of your wooden set is a thing to consider. More features
the set has – more expensive it is.
Also when purchasing a wood swing set, always consider your child's
safety. Most all of the wood swing sets require a 6' safety space
around the set's perimeter. This will ensure that your child has
plenty of space to enjoy all of the features of the play set without
hitting himself on surrounding trees or fences. When installing
a swing set make sure that swings swing out in the direction when
they don’t hit anything.
